Gold Prices Climb — Latest Bhori Rate Updated

Bangla Press Desk:    After two consecutive price cuts, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has raised the price of 22-carat gold by Tk2,216 per bhori (11.664 grams), setting the new rate at Tk224,182 per bhori, inclusive of VAT.

The association issued a press release in this regard on Thursday morning (2 July).

The new prices came into effect at 10am the same day.

BAJUS said the adjustment was made due to an increase in the price of refined gold (tejabi sona) in the local market, which prompted a revision of rates including VAT.

Under the revised structure, 21-carat gold is now priced at Tk214,093 per bhori, while 18-carat gold stands at Tk183,883 per bhori. Traditional gold has been set at Tk150,232 per bhori.

BAJUS said the revised rates will remain in effect at all jewellery outlets until further notice. However, making charges will continue to vary depending on the design of the jewellery.

The association also clarified that VAT is already included in the retail price of gold ornaments and therefore cannot be charged separately from customers. Existing rules regarding the exchange and purchase of jewellery, excluding specified VAT, labour charges and the value of stones, will remain unchanged.
