Govt forms committee to boost export of 4 major sectors
Bangla Press Desk: The government has formed an inter-ministerial committee to develop action plans in a bid to boost the export potential of the country’s four major sectors--leather, jute, agriculture, processed agricultural products and pharmaceutical. The Finance Division has formed a committee with a particular focus on mitigating challenges related to the country’s impending graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status in 2026, according to a press release. The committee will assess challenges and propose solutions to enhance export capacity, as it will not be possible for the government to provide export-based subsidies or cash assistance in the post-LDC era. The inter-ministerial committee will be reviewing measures that can be taken to enhance the export potential of the four emerging and promising sectors.
Bangladesh is scheduled to graduate from the status of least-developed country (LDC) after 2026, and according to World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules, a developing country is not allowed to provide subsidies to support its exports. The 16-member committee has been formed, headed by the principal secretary of the Chief Adviser Office.  This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
