Hegseth dismisses key Pentagon official
Bangla Press Desk: U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has dismissed Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia, a key military planner for the U.S. Armed Forces. This development comes as President Donald Trump considers potential new military operations against Iran.
Prior to his dismissal, Lieutenant General Sylvia served as the Director for Strategy, Plans, and Policy on the U.S. Joint Staff—a position that plays a critical role in shaping military strategy and developing operational plans.
Previously, Lieutenant General Joseph McGee, who held the same position, was also compelled to retire following a move initiated by Hegseth.
No official reason has been provided for Sylvia’s departure.
Meanwhile, acknowledging Sylvia’s 32-year military career, a spokesperson for the Joint Staff told Al Jazeera: "On behalf of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Joint Force, we express our deep gratitude to Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia and his family for his 32 years of distinguished service to the nation. We wish them the very best in their future endeavors and the next chapter of their lives."
The decision to remove Sylvia comes amid ongoing discussions regarding potential new U.S. military actions concerning Iran. However, there is no confirmed information as to whether this dismissal is directly linked to the situation with Iran.
