Home Minister urges against political influence in professional duties

Bangla Press Desk: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmad has urged newly recruited police and Ansar officers to uphold the image of their respective forces and to ensure that they do not abuse their authority while performing their duties. He also emphasized the need for the utmost caution, prudence, and professionalism in the enforcement of the law.

He made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at a briefing and orientation session for officers newly inducted into the 45th BCS (Police) and BCS (Ansar) cadres, held on Sunday afternoon (November 1) at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Secretariat.

The Home Minister stated that while officers might have had political affiliations during their student years, such affiliations must not be allowed to influence their professional lives. He stressed that they must remain neutral and act responsibly while carrying out their professional duties.

Congratulating the new officers, he noted that their primary responsibility upon joining the superior service is to maintain law and order and to ensure an environment conducive to the smooth functioning of the nation. He added that administration, development, social security, and the well-being of the public depend, to a large extent, on how effectively they perform their duties.

Highlighting the importance of discipline and adherence to regulations, the Home Minister urged the officers to strictly follow service rules throughout their careers. Furthermore, he instructed them to duly comply with the lawful directives of their senior officers.

He further remarked that the nature of duties within the police and Ansar forces is distinct and highly challenging compared to other cadre services. Often, these roles require making critical decisions in an instant; therefore, officers must demonstrate intelligence, professionalism, and a sharp presence of mind.

The event was presided over by Manjur Morshed Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Other speakers included the Inspector General of Police (in-charge)—who also serves as Additional IGP (Administration)—A.K.M. Awlad Hossain, and the Director General of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Party (VDP), Major General Abdul Motalab Sajjad Mahmud. Notably, on the morning of Sunday, November 1, 65 officers for the Police cadre and 19 officers for the Ansar cadre—recruited through the 45th BCS examination—joined the Ministry of Home Affairs. This briefing and meeting were organized to provide them with guidance for their duties and to facilitate their formal introduction.
