Bangladeshi young engineer Shakib Ali

Staff Reporter: The body of Bangladeshi young engineer Shakib Ali, who was found dead in his apartment in Marina del Rey, California, has been handed over to his family following the completion of an autopsy. Although the autopsy is complete, the cause of his mysterious death remains unknown, though many suspect a heart attack.

His body has arrived at an Islamic Center in Los Angeles, California. The first Janaza prayer will be held Wednesday at 8:00 PM (after Maghrib). After the Janaza, his body will be transported to Atlanta, Georgia, where he grew up with his parents. A second Janaza will be held in Atlanta on Friday, according to officials of the Georgia Bangladesh Society.

Shakib Ali (32), a Bangladeshi-origin software engineer at Amazon, had been living alone in the Marina del Rey apartment. He had moved to California just six months ago for work. He was the only son of Dr. Muhammad Ali Manik, a well-known physician in Georgia and an Atlanta-based Awami League leader, and Shakira Ali Bacchi.

A source said his parents were in regular contact with him, but had been unable to reach him for 3–4 days, raising concern. On Monday morning, they went to his apartment, found him deceased, and alerted police. Authorities recovered the body and sent it for autopsy.
