Bangla Press Desk: Renowned football agent Pini Zahavi has revealed the story of an incredible financial offer made to Robert Lewandowski. The Polish football icon, who recently completed the process of joining Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer, had the opportunity to become one of the highest-paid athletes in the world. In an interview with Polish media outlet Sportzefrakt, Zahavi said that Robert had a two-year contract offer on the table worth 100 million euros per season.
When asked why Lewandowski rejected the offer, Zahavi replied that it was because he wanted to play for Barcelona.
Interestingly, Zahavi admitted that the Middle East was the striker's first choice if he had to leave Catalonia. The main reason behind this was the geographical and communication advantages. Which would have kept him close to his homeland.
He also said that it is true that Robert wanted to play in Saudi Arabia. Mainly because of the convenience of living there. The time difference between Riyadh and Warsaw is very small and the distance to Poland is much shorter than the United States. We also knew that there was a lot of money waiting for us there.
Lewandowski had no intention of leaving Barcelona in the middle of the season. Later, Zahavi warned the former Bayern Munich star that the offer might not be there in the summer. He said that the Saudi authorities had changed their spending methods. Moreover, the war situation had made things more complicated. So I made it clear to Robert that I had to be honest with you. I know everyone there, I know the market and the situation was going to be very difficult.
Explaining why Lewandowski ultimately left Barca, Zahavi said that Joan Laporta wanted Robert to stay. But Laporta does not interfere in the work of the coaches. Deco and Hansi Flick decide the team's squad. And they couldn't guarantee Robert a regular place in the starting XI, which was much more important to him than money. You know him, he always wants to play, he wants to be the main force of the team, so at some point we started to think about other options.
The lack of a regular place in the starting XI is what accelerated Lewandowski's decision to leave the team. He still believes that he has a lot left to contribute in top football. However, his journey has faced an unexpected obstacle after moving to the United States. Due to adverse environmental conditions, his MLS debut and the moment of reunion with former Bayern Munich teammate Thomas Muller on the field have been postponed.Source: jugantor
