Litton eyes practice match return as Tigers step up Test preps
Bangla Press Desk: Litton Das moved closer to returning to competitive cricket by participating in Bangladesh's training session in Darwin on Wednesday.
The wicket-keeper is now in contention for the practice match against Cricket Australia XI starting on Thursday.
Litton, recovering from a calf injury, batted in the nets and completed wicketkeeping drills without showing discomfort.
Team sources indicated that a final decision on his participation in the practice fixture will be taken on Thursday morning after one last fitness assessment.
Since this warm-up match is Bangladesh's lone chance to get adjusted to Australian conditions, the availability of the white-ball skipper will greatly relieve the visitors.
Meanwhile, pace bowler Hasan Mahmud stressed the importance of the practice game, calling it a key part of Bangladesh's preparations for the two-match Test series.
"I think our practice match is very important for our preparation ahead of the Test, and it will help us a lot in adapting to the conditions and the pitch," Hasan said after Wednesday's training session.
Bangladesh has been training at Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin, focusing on adapting to the extra bounce and pace.
The 26-year-old said the team had enjoyed productive sessions over the past few days and still had work to complete before the series opener.
"We've had some very good training sessions. Today (Wednesday) we worked on our fielding, batting and bowling. We still have several more tasks and training sessions ahead of us," he said.
"Hopefully, everyone will complete their preparations well, and we'll be able to make a good start," he added.
For Litton, the practice match could prove especially valuable. Having missed competitive action because of injury, the 31-year-old is expected to use the game to regain match rhythm if declared fit.
