Mahbub Ali Zaki’s funeral held at Sylhet Stadium
Bangla Press Desk: Dhaka Capitals assistant coach Mahbub Ali Zaki has died of a heart attack. He fell ill on the field before the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match against Rajshahi Warriors and was rushed to hospital, but passed away on the way. Hospital authorities confirmed his death after conducting emergency examinations. He was 59.
His funeral prayer was held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium following the match between Rajshahi Warriors and Dhaka Capitals. BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul, players, officials, journalists and a capacity crowd at the stadium joined his emotional funeral prayers.
Earlier in the day, Zaki suffered a fatal heart attack during the match. After formalities at the hospital, his body was brought back to the ground before being sent under family supervision to his home in Comilla.
The veteran coach, who played a key role in domestic cricket, has left the Dhaka Capitals players and the cricket community in mourning. In a statement, the team expressed deep sorrow at his untimely death, prayed for his soul, and extended condolences to his grieving family.
