Mahmud targets strong comeback on demanding Australian tour
Bangla Press Desk: Former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud on Friday opined that Test cricket is all about challenges and in the Australian conditions, it will not be any different for the Tigers.
“There will certainly be challenges; although Australia doesn't play very often at either the Mackay or Darwin venues, making the conditions somewhat new for them too,” he said this at the opening of a local cricket academy at Old Dhaka.
“The squad they’ve named is a strong one. Still, challenges are inevitable. Test matches always present challenges,” he noted.
The former all-rounder believes that Bangladesh bowling unit can perform well given their performances in the recent past.
“This challenge (for fast bowlers playing in Australia) is exactly what makes it fun. The way I see it, our team is playing well right now, so we have a great opportunity to put up a good performance, but Australia is always a very dangerous team in their home conditions,” he continued.
Mahmud believes that this series will be important for the batters as well.
“I believe our top-order batting will be crucial, especially given the conditions. Australia’s pace trio is definitely dangerous. They are formidable bowlers. They are among the best in the world, in fact, they are three of the very best,” he further stated.
However, he is hopeful that the Tigers will bounce back after a small hiccup in Zimbabwe.
“We didn't play particularly well in the last Test match against Zimbabwe, but I think the series against Australia will be a great opportunity for a comeback. We really want to demonstrate our fighting spirit against Australia,” he concluded.
