'My plan is to go back to Bangladesh, play one full series, and retire'
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh cricket star Shakib Al Hasan has revealed his desire to play a complete series on home soil before retiring from all three formats.
Speaking on a Sunday-released podcast on the YouTube channel ‘Beard Before Wicket’, the all-rounder opened up about his retirement plans for the first time.
“My plan is to go back to Bangladesh, play one full series – ODI, Test and T20I – and retire. That's the plan I have,” Shakib said. “I want to retire from all formats in a series, so it can start from T20I, then ODI and then Test, or Test-ODI-T20I. Either way, I'm fine.”
“That's the dream. I am hopeful. That's the only reason I'm still playing,” he added.
Shakib expressed his hope to interact with the home crowd before retirement.
“It's just a nicer way to say bye to the crowds, to the fans. They supported me always. So, to give something back to them, playing a home series at home, with ODIs, Tests and T20Is, and then the chapter is closed,” he concluded.
Currently, Shakib is representing MI Emirates in the International League T20.
Shakib played his last Test against India in Kanpur in October 2024, his last ODI against Sri Lanka in Delhi during the 2023 World Cup, and his last T20I against Afghanistan at Kingstown during the T20 World Cup.
The former Member of Parliament did not return to Bangladesh following the uprising in the country in July-August 2024.
