Nahid Explains Impact-Driven Approach Behind Five-Wicket Haul
Bangla Press Desk: Nahid Rana insisted that he is more focused on making an impact for Bangladesh than personal milestones after his second five-wicket haul in One Day Internationals powered the Tigers to a dominant win over New Zealand in Mirpur on Monday.
The young pacer, who returned figures of 5 for 32 in the second ODI, said consistency of execution mattered more than individual brilliance, even after a spell where he repeatedly broke key partnerships at crucial moments."Of course. I always try to make an impact for the team. It can be a spell, it can be an over — anything. If I can help the team win even with one good over, I’m happy. For me, taking wickets is not the main thing — helping the team win matters more," Nahid said after the match.
His five wickets, three of which came from the first delivery of an over, consistently halted New Zealand’s progress and ensured Bangladesh remained in control throughout the innings.
Reflecting on his performance compared to the previous match, where he conceded 65 runs, Nahid admitted it was more about execution than conditions.
"In the last match, the wicket was fine but I couldn’t execute well, so I didn’t bowl properly. In this match, I corrected those mistakes and focused on maintaining good areas. Alhamdulillah it worked," he said.
The 23-year-old also highlighted his fitness work as key to maintaining his pace across long spells in extreme heat, where he consistently operated above 145kmph.
"First of all, Alhamdulillah, Allah keeps me fit. And secondly, I work a lot on my fitness with trainers even outside practice sessions. We talk about how to improve and maintain fitness so that during matches I never feel tired while bowling. I also do gym, running and recovery work in my free time," he added.
