NSC signs off on Table Tennis federation reshuffle
Bangla Press Desk: After 17 years, Khandakar Hasan Munir is no longer part of the Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation (BTTF) leadership. The National Sports Council (NSC) has restructured the federation’s ad-hoc committee, appointing Barrister Wasif Farhan as Vice President in place of Munir.
The decision was formalised through a government notification issued on 22 January, signed by NSC Executive Director (Joint Secretary) Md Daulatuzzaman Khan. Alongside Munir’s removal from the vice-presidential post, Safil Raj Azgar Kabir and the representative of the Bangladesh Police have also been excluded from the committee.
BTTF General Secretary Captain AM Maksud Ahmed said the federation had no prior involvement in the decision.
“We had no movement or intention regarding the removal of Khandakar Hasan Munir. We never even considered excluding him from the committee,” he stated.
However, allegations within sports circles suggest that Munir’s exclusion was influenced by internal dynamics involving the general secretary.
Barrister Wasif Farhan, a director of the renowned healthcare provider Labaid Group, is a regular table tennis player and an emerging sports organiser. He recently competed in the 40th National Table Tennis Championship, reaching the Round of 64.
In 2022, he founded Futures Sporting Club, a modern table tennis club actively participating in metropolitan leagues and training programmes.
The current ad-hoc committee is chaired by Engineer MH Zaman, Managing Director of Micro Fiber Group. Former national champion Begum Tahmina Tarmin Binu serves as Vice President, while former national champion Md Ibrahim Hossain holds the position of Treasurer. Captain AM Maksud Ahmed (Sonet) serves as the General Secretary, while national award-winning former player Nasimul Hasan Kochi holds the position of Joint Secretary.
