Bangla Press Desk: The Ministry of Law has introduced four major reforms under its Reform Initiative–1 programme, aimed at modernising the criminal justice system.
One of the key changes mandates that police officers must wear nameplates and carry official identification during arrests, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul confirmed the development in a verified Facebook post on Sunday.
In his post, Nazrul stated that the reforms are part of broader efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in law enforcement.
According to the ministry, the four reforms are as follows:
Police Accountability During Arrests
Officers must wear nameplates and carry ID cards during arrests. Police stations are now legally required to inform the detainee’s family members immediately and provide medical care if the arrestee is injured or ill. These legal protections will be monitored by judicial authorities.
Protection Against False Cases
Victims of false cases will no longer need to file separate lawsuits to take action against those responsible.
Stricter Punishment for False Accusations
Judges will now have the authority to impose harsher penalties directly on individuals proven to have made false allegations.
Enhanced Witness and Victim Protection
Measures to protect witnesses and victims have been strengthened, while the summary trial process has been made more effective.
