Refund of deposits from five banks within one to two weeks: Governor

Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur has said that the merger process of the five troubled banks is progressing rapidly, and within one to two weeks, the depositors of these banks will begin to receive refunds of their deposits. 

The deposit guarantee limit has already been increased from Tk100,000 to Tk200,000. As a result of this government initiative, a total of 7.6 million families, including customers of the five banks, will have the opportunity to recover their savingsThe governor also expressed optimism that the newly consolidated bank will see profits in the first or second year of its operation. He made these remarks yesterday while speaking as a special guest at the publication seminar of “Bangladesh State of the Economy 2025” and “SDG Progress Report 2025” held at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. Several policymakers and economists also presented various data at the event.

Job Announcement for MD of Sammilit Islami Bank:

Meanwhile, the government will appoint a Managing Director (MD) for Sammilit Islami Bank, the new institution formed by merging the five Shariah-based banks. 

The Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance has issued a notice in this regard. It states that interested candidates may apply until 5 p.m. on December 22. 

Applicants must hold a postgraduate degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Banking, or Business Administration from a recognized university. Preference will be given to candidates holding CFA, FCA, CMA, CPA, ACCA, AIBB, or an international Islamic finance certificate.
