Reports of gas supply suspension for the next 4 days are a rumor: Petrobangla
BanglaPress Desk: The Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) has dismissed as a rumor the claims circulating on social media over the past few days, which suggested that gas supplies across the country would be completely halted for the next four days.
This information was conveyed in a notice issued on Tuesday (November 3), signed by Petrobangla Deputy General Manager Tarikul Islam Khan.
Petrobangla clarified that gas supplies will not be entirely cut off. However, due to maintenance work at an LNG terminal, gas supply levels may decrease over the next four days, which could lead to temporary low-pressure issues in some areas.
The notice explains that regasification operations at one of the two LNG terminals located in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar—specifically the Summit LNG terminal—have been suspended for urgent maintenance. Consequently, daily gas supply may drop from 2,570 million cubic feet to 2,250 million cubic feet over the next four days.
The notice further states that certain individuals have been deliberately spreading rumors on social media—using fabricated photo-cards designed to look like they originated from news outlets—claiming that gas supplies would be shut off for the next four days. Petrobangla has noted that this appears to be a calculated attempt to incite public panic.
In light of this, the organization has urged the public not to be misled by such rumors.
