Revenue collection of Tk 3.6 trillion in 11 months
Bangla Press Desk: The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has collected Tk 3,60,642 crore in revenue in the 11 months of the current fiscal year 2025-26, which is the highest in the country's history during the same period.
However, despite a growth of more than 10 percent in revenue collection during this period, there is a deficit of Tk 81,442 crore compared to the set target.
This information was given in a press release by the NBR on Sunday.
The release said that Tk 3,27,786 crore was collected in the same period of the last fiscal year. In comparison, an additional Tk 32,856 crore was collected in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year. The growth rate during this period stood at 10.02 percent.
According to NBR data, the agency's revised revenue target for the current fiscal year has been set at Tk 5,03,000 crore. The target for collection in the first 11 months was Tk 4,42,084 crore. Against this, Tk 3,60,642 crore was collected. As a result, the target achievement rate stands at 81.58 percent.
In the first 11 months, the revenue collection in the customs sub-division grew by 7.08 percent. The VAT sub-division grew by 10.05 percent and the income tax sub-division grew by 12.54 percent.
Meanwhile, Tk 29,311 crore was collected in the first 20 days of June. As a result, the total collection till June 20 stood at Tk 3,89,953 crore, which has exceeded the total collection of the entire year of the last fiscal year of Tk 3,70,843 crore.
The NBR hopes that it will be possible to collect about Tk 25,000 crore more in the last 10 days of June. In that case, the total revenue collection in the current fiscal year could reach Tk 4,15,000 crore, which will be the highest in the country's history. However, even then, there will be a shortfall of about Tk 88,000 crore compared to the revised target.
The NBR has formed three separate task forces with field officers from the income tax, VAT and customs departments to increase revenue collection. The organization claims that revenue collection has accelerated due to identifying tax evasion, strengthening audit activities, supervising collection of tax and VAT at source, risk-based audits and expediting dispute resolution activities.
