Ronaldo scores as Al-Nassr blows away the opposition.
BanglaPress Desk: Controversy off the pitch, goals on it—it is a familiar narrative for Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite leaving the Portugal national team camp and facing a temporary suspension, his goal-scoring momentum remains unbroken. Now, by scoring against Uzbekistan's Neftchi Fergana in the AFC Champions League, the Al-Nassr star has moved closer to the milestone of 1,000 career goals.
Al-Nassr secured a 3-1 victory in their second match last night (October 12). This marks the Saudi club's first win following a 4-0 defeat to Al-Ain in their opening match. Playing at the King University Stadium, Al-Nassr adopted an attacking style from the very beginning.
The Saudi club took the lead in the 30th minute. Angelo scored from a pass by Nawaf Boushal, beating Fergana goalkeeper Botirali Ergashev with his shot.
However, Al-Nassr suffered a significant setback before the goal; Kingsley Coman had to leave the pitch after just 15 minutes due to a muscle injury, with Ayman Yahya coming on to replace him.
Ronaldo doubled the lead towards the end of the first half. The Portuguese captain scored from an Ayman Yahya pass, putting his team 2-0 ahead. This goal brought his total professional career tally to 981, meaning he needs just 19 more goals to reach the historic 1,000-goal milestone.
Fergana attempted a comeback in the second half. A goal from Alisher Odilov narrowed the deficit and hinted at a potential fightback for the Uzbek side. However, an own goal by Anvarjon Gofurov dashed those hopes. Al-Nassr extended their lead to 3-1 with 15 minutes remaining and ultimately finished the match with that scoreline.
Amidst the controversies surrounding the national team, Ronaldo has now scored in his second consecutive match for Al-Nassr. He left the national team camp prior to the match against Denmark following a rift with the Portugal coach during the international break. The Portuguese Football Federation subsequently handed him a temporary suspension.
However, Ronaldo did not let the controversy surrounding the national team affect his club performance. Instead, by continuing to score, he is advancing towards his long-standing goal: the milestone of 1,000 career goals in professional football. The 41-year-old star is now just 19 goals away from that historic moment.
