Sammy clears up confusion over Holder's ODI future

Bangla Press Desk: Confusion surrounding Jason Holder's One Day International future has been resolved after West Indies head coach Daren Sammy clarified that the experienced all-rounder has not retired from the format.

Holder has not featured in ODI cricket since the West Indies failed to qualify for the 2023 World Cup. As a result, many believed he had retired after Sammy recently stated that the former captain had stepped away from the 50-over game.

However, Sammy has now admitted he used the wrong wording and explained that Holder has taken an indefinite break from ODI cricket rather than retiring from the format.

Speaking earlier on Wisden's The Scoop Extended, Sammy had said: "Jason is still in the Test plans. I know he's retired from ODI cricket. But he's made it clear that he's still interested in playing Test cricket."

On Sunday, however, the West Indies coach contacted Wisden to correct his earlier remarks.

"I want to clarify my earlier comments made on this programme regarding Jason Holder's One Day International future. In response to a question about Jason's future in international cricket outside of T20s, I mistakenly stated that he had retired from ODI cricket. That was an error in my choice of words. I sincerely apologise to Jason, Cricket West Indies and the fans for the mistake," Sammy said.

"The correct position is that Jason has taken an indefinite break from ODI cricket. He has not retired from the format and remains available for West Indies selection. Jason remains an important part of our team. Once again, I apologise for the error and appreciate the opportunity to clarify the situation," he added.
