Scrutiny of nomination papers begins in Dhaka’s 20 constituencies
Bangla Press Desk: Scrutiny of nomination papers for all 20 parliamentary constituencies in Dhaka district began today ahead of the 13th national parliamentary elections.
According to election officials, a total of 238 candidates submitted nomination papers by Monday’s deadline. The scrutiny process started at 10:00am under the supervision of three returning officers at the offices of the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner, Dhaka Regional Election Officer and Dhaka District Commissioner.
The Election Commission said scrutiny across the country will be completed by tomorrow. Appeals against returning officers’ decisions may be filed from January 5 to 9 and will be disposed of by 18 January. The deadline for withdrawal of candidacy is 20 January, while the final list of candidates along with symbol allocation will be published on 21 January.
Election campaigning will begin on 22 January and continue until 48 hours before polling. Voting is scheduled for 12 February, from 7:30am to 4:30pm.
Candidates from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizen Party, Islami Andolan Bangladesh and several other parties are contesting across the Dhaka constituencies, with prominent figures including Mirza Abbas, Ishraq Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman and BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman among the aspirants.
