Shanto hails Taijul’s silent brilliance as one of pillars of Bangladesh Test cricket
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh completed a memorable Test victory over Ireland at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium, but beyond the result, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto chose to highlight the enduring influence of left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, who reached the 250-wicket milestone in this match, surpassing Shakib Al Hasan to become the country’s highest Test wicket-taker in Test.
Speaking after the match, Shanto praised Taijul’s extraordinary work ethic, consistency, and quiet dedication, attributes he believes have shaped Bangladesh’s Test identity over the past decade.
“It is very inspiring. I think the way Taijul Bhai has been playing for so many years, especially his work ethic, is beyond question,” Shanto said. “He is always working hard, both off the field and on the field. The interesting thing is that he works silently. Many people don't really want to highlight him, or don't, or don't get the opportunity to. I mentioned in a previous press conference how Test cricket can progress. If all of us collectively talk about this format and highlight the players who are doing well, when these things are discussed, that is when Test cricket will elevate,” Shanto explained.
“But first and foremost, we must perform. Taijul Bhai or Mushfiqur Bhai, they are achieving many great things and will perhaps achieve more in the future. The more these achievements are talked about, the more they will spread among people, and then people will start thinking and realizing the true importance of Test cricket. So, I hope that alongside our performance, you [media] will also highlight these matters to the public and explain their importance,” the test skipper also included.
