South Korea could become a partner in Turkey's nuclear power plant project: Erdogan
BanglaPress Desk: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has indicated that South Korea could become a partner in the construction of the planned Sinop Nuclear Power Plant in Turkey. This was reported by the British news agency Reuters.
According to the report, President Erdoğan mentioned this possibility in an interview with the South Korean news agency Yonhap on Monday (November 2). He stated that Turkey is currently examining the technical and economic aspects of the Black Sea-based nuclear project with the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). Before selecting a final partner, however, Ankara will evaluate factors such as project financing, electricity production costs, and the overall benefits to the Turkish economy.
President Erdoğan is scheduled to arrive in Seoul on Monday for a three-day state visit—his first trip to South Korea since 2018. The South Korean presidential office has confirmed that he will hold a summit meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on Tuesday (November 3).
In his interview with Yonhap, Erdoğan identified not only nuclear energy but also defense technology, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and robotics as potential areas for bilateral cooperation. He called for increased South Korean investment in Turkey and the development of joint production initiatives.
Erdoğan also noted that both nations are working toward a bilateral trade target of $15 billion. Pointing out that the current trade balance favors South Korea, he urged for measures to narrow this gap. Furthermore, the Turkish President invited South Korean companies to participate in Turkey’s major transport and logistics projects, which serve as a bridge between Asia and Europe. Source: Reuters
