Special healthcare facilities for BGMEA members

Bangla Press Desk:   The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has undertaken a significant initiative to encourage its members, officials, employees, and their families to avail quality healthcare and diagnostic services within the country, thereby reducing dependency on treatment abroad.

To this end, the BGMEA signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on Saturday with 10 renowned healthcare institutions, comprising 9 hospitals and 1 diagnostic centre.

Under these agreements, BGMEA members, officials, employees, and their legal dependents will be eligible to receive high-quality medical and diagnostic services from these institutions at special discounted rates.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka, presided over by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan. Also present were First Vice President Salim Rehman, Senior Vice-President Inamul Haq Khan, Vice-President Md Rezwan Selim, Vice-President (Finance) Mijanur Rahman, and Directors Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Faisal Samad, Md Hasib Uddin, Nafis-Ud-Doula, and Enamul Aziz Chowdhury, along with representatives from the respective healthcare organizations. The event was coordinated by BGMEA Director Shah Rayeed Chowdhury.

The institutions that signed the MoUs with BGMEA are Bangladesh Eye Hospital and Institute Ltd., Dhaka Central International Medical College and Hospital, Labaid Group Ltd., Labaid Cancer Hospital and Super Specialty Center, LifePlus Bangladesh Ltd. (Digital Healthcare Platform), Popular Diagnostic Center Ltd., Praava Health Bangladesh Ltd., Samorita Hospital Ltd., United Hospital Ltd., and United Healthcare Services Ltd.

BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan signed the MoUs on behalf of BGMEA.

On behalf of the respective institutions, the MoUs were signed by: Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury, chairman, Bangladesh Eye Hospital and Institute Ltd.; Hadiul Karim Khan, head of marketing, Dhaka Central International Medical College and Hospital; Sharif Mohammad Abid, CEO, Labaid Group (representing Labaid Group, Labaid Cancer Hospital & Super Specialty Center, and LifePlus Bangladesh Ltd.); Achintya Kumar Nag, deputy general manager & head, HR and admin, Popular Diagnostic Center Ltd.; Mohammad Abdul Matin Imon, CEO, Praava Health Bangladesh Ltd.; Saifuddin Ahmed Sajib, consultant & CEO, Samorita Hospital Ltd.; Malik Talha Ismail Bari, managing director & CEO, United Hospital Ltd.; Mohammad Faizur Rahman, CEO, United Healthcare Services Ltd.

In his remarks, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan announced BGMEA’s plan to establish a state-of-the-art hospital in the Gazipur/Ashulia region to provide affordable and quality healthcare services to garment workers.

He mentioned that the country’s leading hospitals and diagnostic institutions would collaborate in managing the facility. The MoU signing ceremony marks the first step toward implementing this vision.

In his welcome speech, BGMEA Director Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, who is the main driving force behind this initiative, said that this initiative represents a milestone in ensuring better health and well-being for entrepreneurs and professionals in the garment industry.

BGMEA Director Faisal Samad called upon the partner hospitals to set up dedicated “Help Desks” for BGMEA members to facilitate smooth and efficient access to medical services.

Representatives from the participating institutions expressed their appreciation for the partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to contributing to Bangladesh’s healthcare advancement.

They also encouraged BGMEA to explore broader collaborations and investments in the healthcare sector to build a healthier and more resilient nation.
