Sunnydale rule School Handball, claim both crowns

Bangla Press Desk: Sunnydale School made history by winning both the boys’ and girls’ titles at the 29th Polar Ice Cream School Handball Competition. The boys’ team had previously won the championship in 2023, while the girls’ team claimed the title for the first time in a decade, since 2013.

The boys’ final, held on Sunday at the Shaheed (Captain) M. Monsur Ali National Handball Stadium in Paltan, Dhaka, saw Sunnydale defeat Narinda Government High School 23–17. The winning team had taken a 15–7 lead by halftime.

In the closely contested girls’ final, Sunnydale overcame Viqarunnisa Noon School 14–12. Viqarunnisa had led 7–5 at halftime and had dominated girls’ handball for years, winning the last seven editions of the tournament. Despite a strong start, they could not withstand Sunnydale’s late surge.

Individual awards went to Sunnydale’s Ahyan Ahmed as the boys’ best player and Raha as the girls’ best player. The best goalkeeper awards were claimed by Mahi of Dhaka Govt. Muslim High School (boys)and Anzum of Viqarunnisa Noon School (girls).

In the boys’ competition, St. Gregory's High School secured third place, and Dhaka Govt. Muslim High School finished fourth. In the girls’ division, Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar Girls College took third, and Sher-E-Bangla Balika Mahavidyalaya finished fourth.

The winners received their trophies from Asaduzzaman Kohinoor, former General Secretary of the Bangladesh Handball Federation.
