Tarique Rahman phones son of deceased BNP leader
Bangla Press Desk: BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed profound sorrow over the death of BNP leader Jamal Uddin, who succumbed to his injuries following a road accident while travelling to Dhaka to attend a rally marking Tarique Rahman’s homecoming day.
On Friday (2 January), after Juma prayers, Tarique Rahman spoke by phone with Jamal’s eldest son to enquire about the family’s condition.
During the call, he prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
Jamal Uddin died at around 11:30am on Friday while undergoing treatment at Dhaka PG Hospital.
BNP sources said that upon hearing Jamal’s injuries after the accident, Tarique Rahman had immediately instructed party leaders to ensure proper medical treatment.
After being informed of his death, he personally contacted the family and expressed his sympathy, also indicating that he would visit them in person at a later date.
Speaking to Jamal’s elder son Riyaz, Tarique Rahman said he understood the family’s pain, noting that he too shared a similar sense of loss. He urged the brothers to remain united and to take care of one another, offering prayers for Jamal’s forgiveness and peace in the hereafter.
Jamal Uddin was a former president of BNP’s Ward No 4 unit of Noakhali Municipality and the son of Arshad Mia. He is survived by three sons and a daughter.
His namaj-e-janaza was held at 9:00pm on Friday at Harinarayanpur Union High School ground in Noakhali, followed by his burial at the family graveyard in Uttar Fakirpur village.
BNP Central Vice-Chairman Md Shahjahan and a large number of party leaders, activists and local residents attended the janaza.
The accident occurred at around 1:45am on Wednesday night (24 December) at Bagmara Bazar on the Cumilla–Noakhali regional highway, when a bus of Nilachal Paribahan lost control and mounted the road divider. At least 32 BNP leaders and activists, including Jamal Uddin, were injured in the incident.
