Temperature may drop to 6°C in Tetulia, disrupting daily life
Bangla Press Desk: Bitter cold has tightened its grip in Panchagarh. Dense fog and icy northern winds have disrupted normal daily life in this district at the foothills of the Himalayas.
The lowest temperature of this season was recorded in Tetulia at 6.9 degrees Celsius on Friday morning. The severe cold has caused the greatest suffering for working-class people, day laborers, transport drivers, children, and the elderly.
According to the Tetulia Meteorological Observation Center, at 6am on Friday, the district recorded its lowest temperature of the ongoing winter season at 6.9 degrees Celsius. At that time, air humidity was 100 percent and wind speed was 10 to 12 kilometers per hour.
Earlier on Thursday, the minimum temperature was 9.2 degrees Celsius and the day’s maximum temperature was 18.5 degrees Celsius. Before that, on Wednesday, the minimum temperature dropped to 7.5 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature that day was 20 degrees Celsius.
Although the sun has been visible after noon for the past few days, the expected warmth has not been felt. From early morning on Friday, roads and highways in both rural and urban areas of the district were covered in dense fog. Reduced visibility due to fog has disrupted traffic on highways, and drivers have been seen operating vehicles at slower speeds.
Due to the prolonged cold and fog, day laborers and low-income people in various parts of the district are facing severe hardship. Many are unable to go out for work early in the morning because of the biting cold. To keep warm, people have been seen lighting fires with straw, dry leaves, and wood in different village and town areas since dawn.
Jitendranath Roy, the acting officer of the Tetulia Meteorological Observation Center, said that temperatures in Tetulia have been fluctuating over the past few days. The intensity of the cold has increased due to icy northern winds and dense fog. He added that this situation may continue for the next few days.
