The Prime Minister will visit Türkiye to attend a climate conference.
Bangla Press Desk: Prime Minister Tareque Rahman will visit Turkey to attend COP-31, the international conference on climate change. He will participate in the two-day high-level session of the conference. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam shared this information with journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (November 2).
During this visit, the government intends to highlight Bangladesh’s successes in addressing climate change. Furthermore, it will advocate for climate-related funding to be provided in the form of grants rather than loans.
Regarding the dates of the Prime Minister’s visit to Turkey and Bangladesh’s stance at the conference, the State Minister noted that details are typically provided through a formal press conference prior to any of the Prime Minister’s foreign visits; this practice will be followed on this occasion as well.
The Prime Minister’s visit to Turkey will be brief, as he will only be attending the two-day high-level session of the conference.
Shama Obaid mentioned that two key issues will be prioritized for Bangladesh at the conference: showcasing the achievements of Bangladesh and the people of this region in tackling climate change and building climate resilience on the international stage; and highlighting the specific support required by climate-vulnerable nations—such as Bangladesh—to cope with the future impacts of climate change.
It should be noted that the global climate conference, COP-31, is scheduled to take place in Turkey from November 9 to 20.
