Tigers keep Super 4 hopes alive
  Bangla Press Desk:  Bangladesh earned a hard-fought 8-run victory over Afghanistan, marking their first T20I win against the Afghans away from home and keeping their Asia Cup Super 4 hopes alive at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. The Tigers’ bowlers were clinical in defence, restricting Afghanistan to 146 all out in 20 overs after posting 154 for 5 themselves. Afghanistan’s chase of 155 never got off the ground as Bangladesh bundled them for 146 in 20 overs. Early breakthroughs proved decisive for Litton Das’ side on the night.
Nasum Ahmed struck in the very first over, removing Sediqullah Atal for a duck off the first ball and then dismissing Ibrahim Zadran (5) in the fourth over. Afghanistan limped to 27 for 2 at the powerplay, with Gulbadin Naib (16) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (35) offering brief resistance. Rishad Hossain’s crucial double strike removed both Naib and Gurbaz, while Taskin Ahmed (2/34) and Mustafizur Rahman (3/28) kept the pressure high. Azmatullah Omarzai (30 off 16 balls) attempted to ignite the innings with some big hitting, including a 99-metre six, but wickets fell at regular intervals. Rashid Khan (20), AM Ghazanfar (0), and Noor Ahmad (14) fell in quick succession, leaving Afghanistan unable to chase the required rate, which had one point climbed above 10 after 11 overs.
Tigers had earlier posted 154 for 5 after winning the toss and electing to bat. Openers Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan put on a 63-run first-wicket stand, the Tigers’ highest powerplay score against Afghanistan in 13 T20Is. Tanzid led the charge with 52 off 31 balls, while Saif contributed 30 off 28. Noor Ahmad struck twice to remove Litton Das (9) and Tanzid, and Rashid Khan then dismissed Saif and Shamim Hossain (11). Azmatullah Omarzai trapped Towhid Hridoy (26), leaving Bangladesh with a competitive total. Lower-order contributions from Jaker Ali (12 not out) and Nurul Hasan (12 not out) helped push the score to a defendable 154, with extras adding just 2.
