TMSS successfully completes Bogura’s first bone marrow transplant
Bangla Press Desk: TMSS Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant Center has successfully completed the first-ever bone marrow (stem cell) transplant in Bogura, marking a significant milestone in healthcare services in northern Bangladesh.
The achievement was officially announced at a press conference held in Bogura.
The successful bone marrow transplant was performed on 60-year-old Md. Mizanur Rahman, a resident of Bhandabari area in Rangpur district. The procedure was led by Professor Dr. Abu Zafar Mohammad Saleh. The patient was first diagnosed with his condition on February 12, 2024. After receiving treatment for six months without significant improvement, he was admitted to Evercare Hospital in December 2024. Following detailed medical examinations in August 2025, doctors decided that a stem cell transplant was necessary. Subsequently, the entire treatment process was successfully completed at the TMSS Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant Center.
During the press conference, physicians and specialists shared detailed insights into the treatment process, medical challenges, and overall clinical experience. Speakers also highlighted the growing capability of healthcare professionals in Bangladesh to deliver advanced and life-saving treatments outside Dhaka, demonstrating a major advancement in regional healthcare infrastructure.
Among those present at the event were Rotarian Dr. Md. Matiur Rahman, Deputy Executive Director; Dr. Abu Zafar Mohammad Saleh, Chief Consultant, TMSS; Professor Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain, Principal along with other hematology specialists and distinguished figures from the healthcare sector.
Speaking at the event, Rotarian Dr. Md. Matiur Rahman, Deputy Executive Director of TMSS, stated:“Bogura’s first successful bone marrow transplant is not only a milestone for TMSS but also a significant achievement for the entire healthcare system of northern Bangladesh. Through this success, we aim to deliver a message of advanced and quality healthcare to the people of this region.”
Dr. Abu Jafar Mohammed Saleh, Chief Consultant, TMSS, commented:“Today’s achievement demonstrates that with proper infrastructure and skilled manpower, complex procedures like stem cell transplantation can be performed safely and successfully at the regional level. I am confident that TMSS will witness many more such successes in the future.”
Professor Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain, Principal, TMSS Medical College, added: “This accomplishment is a matter of pride not only for TMSS but also for the entire healthcare sector of northern Bangladesh. It sets a unique example and will help spread the message of advanced medical services across the region.”
Sharing his treatment experience, patient Md. Mizanur Rahman said:“After months of treatment, I had almost lost hope, but my doctors never gave up on me. By the grace of Almighty Allah, and due to the care, guidance, and successful transplant at TMSS, I am alive today and hopeful of making a full recovery very soon.”
