Today is the historic National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
BanglaPress Desk: Today is the historic 7th of November—National Revolution and Solidarity Day. On this day in 1975, soldiers and the public stood shoulder to shoulder, taking to the streets with a firm resolve to thwart the conspiracies of hegemonic forces and to safeguard our national independence, sovereignty, and democracy. Together, the soldiers and the people secured the release of Ziaur Rahman—the proclaimer of independence, the architect of multi-party democracy and Bangladeshi nationalism, and the founder of the BNP—from his confinement in the cantonment, entrusting him with the vital responsibility of leading the nation. Consequently, November 7th holds a unique historical significance in the life of the nation. This revolution by the soldiers and the public brought an end to the prevailing chaos, anarchy, authoritarianism, and one-party rule that had plagued the country. It steered the nation away from instability and back toward order. On the occasion of this day, statements have been issued by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Tarique Rahman. In his message, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called upon everyone—regardless of political affiliation—to draw inspiration from the spirit of National Revolution and Solidarity Day and to unite in building a democratic, just, humane, and secure Bangladesh. In his statement, Tarique Rahman noted that on this day, the soldiers and the public stood united to thwart all conspiracies directed against the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh. He remarked that while dwelling solely on the past is not advisable, failing to learn from history when charting the path for the future is a grave historical error. Furthermore, a public holiday is being observed nationwide today; the national flag will be hoisted with due solemnity on all government and private buildings across the country, as well as at Bangladesh embassies abroad. The BNP is observing a seven-day program to commemorate this significant day in our national history, and various other political parties and organizations have also arranged their own programs to mark the occasion.
