Trump to present World Cup trophy to winners: FIFA president
Bangla Press Desk: Donald Trump will present the trophy to the winning team in the final match of this World Cup on July 19, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has said.
Infantino and Trump have developed a close relationship due to the current World Cup. However, the US president has not been seen giving much public statement about the tournament since the tournament began on June 11.
However, in an interview with Fox & Friends, the FIFA president confirmed that Trump will play a key role in the trophy presentation ceremony at the New York New Jersey Stadium. Trump also presented the trophy in a similar manner at the Club World Cup final held in the United States last year, where English club Chelsea took home the title.
Infantino said, “We will enjoy the final match together and of course we will present the trophy to the winners.”
When asked if the two of them would jointly present the trophy, Infantino added, “Of course, we are always together.”
That old confusion about Trump
Earlier, the US president caused confusion in the last Club World Cup final. Trump remained on the winners’ podium after presenting the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James.
Recalling the incident later, James said, “I was told that he would leave the podium after presenting the trophy. I also thought he would leave, but he wanted to stay on the podium.”
When asked what Trump said to him, James added, “To be honest, there was a lot of shouting and noise in the stadium. I didn’t hear much. He just congratulated me and our team on winning the trophy and told us to enjoy the moment.”
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, who scored two goals against PSG, was, however, a little confused about the whole thing. "I knew he would be here, but I didn't know he would be on stage with us when we lifted the trophy. Yeah, I was a little confused," he said. Source: jugantor
