Trump’s new Chief of Staff, Stephen Miller
BanglaPress Desk: Following the Republican Party’s significant defeat in the U.S. midterm elections, President Donald Trump has announced a change in the position of White House Chief of Staff. He has named Stephen Miller—currently the Deputy Chief of Staff—to take over the role, replacing the incumbent, Susie Wiles.
However, Susie Wiles will remain within Trump’s inner circle; according to the President’s announcement, she will join the team managing his political operations. Wiles was the first person appointed by Trump following the 2024 election and holds the distinction of being the first woman to serve as White House Chief of Staff.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated: "I am pleased to announce that Stephen Miller, currently the Deputy Chief of Staff for the Trump administration and one of my most trusted advisors, will assume the role of Chief of Staff starting next Monday, November 9th. Susie Wiles, who has done an extraordinary job, will now join the ‘Trump Political Operation.’ I thank her for her service as Chief of Staff; she has done a fantastic job."
Shortly after the announcement, Wiles issued a statement: "Today is my final day as White House Chief of Staff. Serving President Trump at the White House has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I am proud to have been part of what we achieved together—securing the border, cutting taxes, strengthening the economy, and implementing policies that put America first."
Wiles also affirmed that her commitment to the President and his objectives remains unchanged. She will step down from her position on Monday. Wiles served as Chief of Staff for the longest duration during Trump’s current presidency; by comparison, four different individuals held the role during his first four-year term.
Following the midterm election losses, Trump is reportedly planning a major shake-up of his cabinet. Some reports suggest that he may replace Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Additionally, reports have emerged suggesting that Secretary of State Marco Rubio might step down from his position to prepare for the 2028 presidential election.
However, the U.S. State Department has denied reports of Rubio’s departure, with a senior official describing them as "completely baseless, fake news."
Stephen Miller
Stephen Miller—who holds the title of Homeland Security Advisor—is one of Trump’s closest and longest-serving associates. He joined Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign team as a speechwriter. Currently serving as Deputy Chief of Staff, Miller is best known for his deep involvement in shaping Trump’s immigration policies.
He faced significant criticism last January following an incident in which two protesters were killed by immigration officials. Before joining Trump’s team, Miller worked for Jeff Sessions, a former Republican Senator from Alabama. Sessions later served as U.S. Attorney General during Trump’s first term.
