UTAB pays tribute to Ziaur Rahman on his 90th birth anniversary
Bangla Press Desk: The University Teachers Association of Bangladesh (UTAB) paid tribute to BNP founder and martyred President Ziaur Rahman by laying a wreath at his tomb at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka on Monday on the occasion of his 90th birth anniversary.
UTAB leaders placed floral wreaths at the grave at around 9:00am and offered prayers for the departed soul.
Speaking after the tribute, UTAB chairman Prof ABM Obaidul Islam said President Ziaur Rahman was not merely a political figure but a towering statesman who proclaimed Bangladesh’s independence and placed the country on a new and glorious position on the world map.
“He is the real architect of Bangladesh’s development. All the successes of Bangladesh came through his hands. During his tenure, development flourished in the country’s politics,” he said.
Prof Obaidul described Ziaur Rahman as an honest and patriotic leader, adding that such statesmen are rare not only in Bangladesh but across the world.
“We deeply feel the absence of a leader like him today,” he added.
UTAB secretary general Morshed Hasan Khan said Ziaur Rahman rebuilt Bangladesh and established himself as the architect of modern Bangladesh.
“In a very short time, he introduced good governance and ruled with the principle that the law is equal for all,” he said.
He credited Ziaur Rahman for initiating labour export, launching the garment industry and making Bangladesh self-sufficient in food during his tenure.
“There is no sector where he did not contribute to the country’s development,” he added.
Morshed Hasan Khan also said Ziaur Rahman actively participated in the Liberation War and earned the title of Bir Uttam.
“If he had not been born, Bangladesh would not have achieved independence so easily. He never bowed to any foreign power and always prioritised the country,” he said.
He prayed for the forgiveness of the late president’s soul and sought eternal peace for him.
