Warrants for Hasina, 29 others sent to police chief, others


Bangla Press Desk: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has sent arrest warrants for 30 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in two separate cases linked to enforced disappearance.
At the same time, the warrants were also sent to 12 relevant departments.
The tribunal’s registrar office provided this information on Thursday morning (9 October).
While talking about the issue, Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said that the tribunal sent the arrest warrants issued against 30 accused in the two cases to the IGP and the 12 departments yesterday afternoon.
The 12 departments are: Chief of Army Staff, Chief of General Staff, Adjutant General (Army Headquarters), DG DGFI, DG NSI, Principal Staff Officer (Armed Forces Division), Secretary, Chief Adviser’s Office, Director Military Intelligence, Director Personnel Service Directorate (Bangladesh Army), Commandant Army Security Unit, Provost Marshal, CEO (Army MP Unit for Information).
Earlier, on Wednesday (8 October), the ICT issued warrants for the arrest of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and 29 others in two separate cases filed over enforced disappearances during the Awami League government’s tenure.
Between 2009 and 2024, hundreds of people were subjected to enforced disappearances under the Awami League government, with many still missing and some allegedly killed and disappeared without trace.
Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on 5 August last year, several survivors, including Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman and Abdullahil Amaan Azmi were released from detention.
The two cases of enforced disappearance were filed at the International Crimes Tribunal based on complaints from these victims.
