Bangla Press Desk: He has already proven his mettle in domestic cricket and performed well after securing a spot in the Asian Games T20 squad. Now, mystery spinner Alis Al Islam has earned a maiden call-up to the Bangladesh national ODI squad. On Saturday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming tri-nation series in the UAE, featuring Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.
Alis has been in excellent form recently. Last month, playing for the Bangladesh 'A' team during the tour of South Africa, he claimed three wickets for 35 runs in an ODI. He was the highest wicket-taker in the most recent edition of the Dhaka Premier League, claiming 24 wickets across 10 innings. He also took one wicket for 18 runs in his four-over spell during his T20 debut against Sri Lanka at the Asian Games.
According to Chief Selector Habibul Bashar, Alis earned his spot in the squad due to his ability to take wickets while conceding few runs and his strong performance in South Africa.
Bangladesh will kick off their campaign on October 17 with a match against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi. Afghanistan will face Zimbabwe on October 19, followed by a match between Bangladesh and Afghanistan in Sharjah on October 21. The final is scheduled for October 23. All matches will commence at 3:30 PM Bangladesh time.
