Who Will Argentina Face in Their Two Home Friendlies?
Bangla Press Desk: Following the emotional farewell match for Lionel Messi, Argentina has begun preparations for the upcoming FIFA international break. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) is currently working to finalize opponents and venues for friendly matches during this period. As part of these efforts, the world champions could face their arch-rivals, Uruguay, with the match potentially taking place at the iconic ‘La Bombonera’ stadium in Buenos Aires.
According to a report by the Argentine media outlet TyC Sports, Argentina and Uruguay may once again clash in an intense ‘Río de la Plata’ derby. Discussions are underway regarding the possibility of hosting the match at the home ground of Boca Juniors.
This could serve as Argentina’s second friendly match during the November international break. According to the AFA’s plans, the first match might be held at a different stadium within the country, with the Costa Rica national team being considered as a potential opponent. However, the final schedule and opponents for both matches have yet to be officially confirmed.
Argentina has been in excellent form recently, securing decisive victories in each of their last three friendly matches. They defeated Bolivia 4-0 at the Mario Alberto Kempes Stadium in Córdoba, followed by a commanding 7-0 win against Burkina Faso at River Plate’s home ground. Most recently, they defeated Benin 3-0 in what served as Messi’s farewell match.
The match against Benin was deeply emotional for Messi; the Argentine superstar played his final game for the national team amidst an outpouring of affection from the fans at the Monumental Stadium. Even as the echoes of that farewell linger, the team is already gearing up for new international challenges.
The next FIFA international break is scheduled to run from November 9 to 17. Should the potential encounter against Uruguay take place during this window, it would undoubtedly be a major draw for fans of both South American rivals. Now, all that remains is to await the AFA's official announcement.
