Yamal unhappy with FIFA's decision.
Bangla Press Desk: Spain became champions for the second time by defeating Argentina 1–0 in the most recent World Cup. Although midfielder Rodrigo Hernández Cascante—known as Rodri—did not score a single goal throughout the tournament, he played a pivotal role in Spain's title-winning campaign.
Even without scoring, Rodri excelled in controlling the midfield, passing, recovering possession, and linking defense with attack. He was outstanding in the winning match as well; according to FIFA statistics, he successfully completed 101 out of 105 passes, won 80 percent of his duels, and created two goal-scoring opportunities. In light of these contributions, Rodri was awarded the Golden Boot.
However, his teammate Lamine Yamal disagrees with FIFA's decision. In his view, Lionel Messi was the best player of the World Cup. Although his team lost the final, the Argentine captain illuminated his final World Cup with a brilliant individual performance. He scored eight goals—including a hat-trick—and provided four assists. With a total of 21 goals, Messi is now the second-highest goalscorer in World Cup history.
Speaking on Movistar’s *Universo Valdano* program, Yamal said, "For me, Leo Messi was the best player of the World Cup. No one expected a player of Leo's age—or even Leo himself—to achieve what he did. Yet, he performed at such an incredibly high level."
Yamal admitted he had not anticipated such a magnificent performance from Messi at the North American World Cup: "Everyone knows Messi is the greatest player of all time. But no one expected him to play such a legendary World Cup."
