Young Tigers finish tournament with consolation victory
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh concluded their journey at the 2026 ICC Men’s U-19 World Cup with a consolation 74-run win over hosts Zimbabwe in Harare on Saturday.
In the process, the young Tigers, who had won the tournament in 2020, finished a disappointing fourth in Super Sixes Group 2 with three points from four matches.
Batting first, the youngsters in red and green posted 253 for loss of nine wickets, riding on captain Azizul Hakim (59) and Rizan Hossain (47).
In reply, Zimbabwe were dismissed for 179 in 48.4 overs in the face of some disciplined bowling by Bangladesh, led by Iqbal Hossain Emon (5/24) and Al Fahad (3/39).
At one point, Zimbabwe were reeling on 109/8 before being rescued by skipper Simbarashe Mudzengerere (70) and Shelton Mazvitorera (42*), but their valiant efforts proved to be inadequate in the end.
Earlier in the group phase, Bangladesh had beaten USA and lost to India with their other game against New Zealand washed out.
