10–12km traffic jam in Gazipur’s Chandra causes suffering for homebound travelers

Bangla Press Desk:   A massive traffic jam stretching 10 to 12 kilometers has formed in the Chandra Trimor area of Kaliakair upazila in Gazipur, causing severe suffering for passengers and drivers.

The congestion began on Wednesday morning, with vehicles moving intermittently along the affected routes. The situation has worsened as the number of homebound travelers continues to rise ahead of Eid.While traffic pressure has increased on the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway, no major congestion has been reported there. However, a traffic jam has developed on the Dhaka–Tangail highway, particularly near the Chandra bus terminal, due to slow vehicle movement.

According to drivers, the situation may deteriorate further later in the day when around 40 percent of factories in Gazipur close, significantly increasing the volume of vehicles on the roads.Traffic congestion has been observed from Sofipur to Chandra Trimor on the Dhaka–Tangail highway, as well as from the Baraipara area to the Trimor along the Chandra–Nabinagar road. Despite the deployment of additional police personnel, authorities are struggling to manage the situation due to excessive traffic pressure.

On-site observations revealed that vehicles remained stuck for long periods in some areas, while in others they moved slowly. Most buses arriving from Dhaka and Narayanganj were already full, leaving little opportunity to pick up additional passengers in the Chandra area.

As a result, numerous vehicles have been parked along both sides of the highway to transport local passengers. Many of these vehicles had been reserved earlier for factory workers, which has further contributed to the traffic congestion.

Authorities are continuing efforts to ease the situation, but commuters remain frustrated as delays persist.
