1,483 July fighters, 82 martyrs' families honoured

Bangla Press Desk: The Dhaka District Administration honoured 82 families of July martyrs and 1,483 July fighters during a ceremony held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital on Tuesday, commemorating July Mass Uprising Day. Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus delivered a virtual address at the event. The chief adviser stated, "Over the past 16 years, a mafia regime took hold, attempting to cling to power by firing bullets at its own people." "5 August is not just a special day; it is a vow—a story of public awakening and national rebirth from fascist rule. I pay deep respect to all the heroic freedom fighters of the 1971 Liberation War, whose sacrifices gave us an independent and sovereign Bangladesh," he said. Earlier in the programme, a documentary on the July Mass Uprising was screened, followed by heartfelt recollections shared by families of martyrs and July fighters.

Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharf Uddin Ahmed Choudhury and Deputy Commissioner Tanvir Ahmed presented commemorative crests and gift boxes to the honourees.
