Bangla Press Desk: The Dhaka District Administration honoured 82 families of July martyrs and 1,483 July fighters during a ceremony held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital on Tuesday, commemorating July Mass Uprising Day.
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus delivered a virtual address at the event. The chief adviser stated, "Over the past 16 years, a mafia regime took hold, attempting to cling to power by firing bullets at its own people."
"5 August is not just a special day; it is a vow—a story of public awakening and national rebirth from fascist rule. I pay deep respect to all the heroic freedom fighters of the 1971 Liberation War, whose sacrifices gave us an independent and sovereign Bangladesh," he said.
Earlier in the programme, a documentary on the July Mass Uprising was screened, followed by heartfelt recollections shared by families of martyrs and July fighters.
