3 confess to killing scrap vendor Sohag at Mitford

Bangla Press Desk: Three accused gave confessional statements on Thursday over the murder of scrap vendor Lal Chand, alias Md Sohag in front of the Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka last week. Metropolitan Magistrates Md Monirul Islam, Mohammad Ehsanul Islam, and Awlad Hossain Muhammad Jonaid recorded their statements and sent them to jail. The accused are Titon Gazi, Md Alamgir, and Monir, alias Lamba Monir. The investigation officer, Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Moniruzzaman, confirmed the information. Following the completion of their remand, the police presented the three before the court, where they confessed to their crimes.

On 12 July, the court granted a five-day remand for Titon Gazi, and on 13 July, four-day remands each for Alamgir and Monir. Sohag was killed on 9 July in broad daylight outside Gate-3 of Mitford Hospital. People saw the attackers repeatedly striking him with a concrete boulder, exposing a grim picture of brutality. A massive outcry erupted across the country after a video showing the act of cruelty went viral on social media. A day after the murder, Monjuara Begum, Sohag's sister, filed the case with the concerned police station in this connection.

BNP has expelled five leaders of Jubo Dal, Swechhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal for their alleged involvement in the killing. This article was originally published on The Daily sun.
