3,400 Muslim families driven out of Assam, deported to Bangladesh
Bangla Press Desk:  At least 3400 Muslim families were driven out of their homes in Assam, the northeastern state of India, and deported to Bangladesh in a month-long crackdown, Reuters reports on Monday. The crackdown was launched recently ahead of the Indian state polls and hundreds of evicted people, including children, elderly men and women, took shelter beneath a sea of blue tarpaulin in a corner of northeastern India near Bangladesh. They are among thousands of families whose houses have been bulldosed in the past few weeks by authorities who accuse them of illegally staying on government land. In the wake of the 5 August 2024 changeover, the Indian government reportedly took such an action after identifying Bangla-speaking Muslims as illegal intruders, Reuters said in its report.
