39 more Bangladeshis deported from United States

Bangla Press Desk:  A total of 39 more Bangladeshis have been deported from the United States. They arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a special US military flight on Friday morning.

After their arrival at 5:30am, BRAC provided emergency assistance, including transportation support, through the airport authorities.

Earlier on 8 June of this year, 42 Bangladeshis were brought back on a chartered flight.

Between 6 March and 12 April, at least 34 more Bangladeshis were deported on several flights. From the beginning of 2024 to August of this year, the number of Bangladeshis deported from the United States has exceeded 220.

According to airport sources, unlike some of the previous returnees who were deported with handcuffs and leg shackles at various times this year, the Bangladeshis who returned on Friday were not restrained.

Among the deportees, 26 are from Noakhali. In addition, two each are from Cumilla, Sylhet, Feni, and Lakshmipur, and one each from Chattogram, Gazipur, Dhaka, Munshiganj and Narsingdi. Earlier this year, the US administration deported 187 Bangladeshis.

Speaking with the returnees, BRAC's Migration Programme reported that among the 39 deported this time, at least 34 had gone to Brazil with clearance from the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET). From there, they attempted to enter the US illegally via Mexico.

Of the remaining five, two traveled directly to the United States and three entered the US via South Africa. All 39 applied to live in the US. The US authorities completed the legal process and decided to deport them back to Bangladesh.
