5.3 Quake Strikes Tibet as Tremors Reach Nepal
Bangla Press Desk: A moderate earthquake measuring magnitude 5.3 struck the Tibet Autonomous Region on Wednesday according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
The seismic event was recorded at a depth of 35 kilometres (21.75 miles). Tremors were also felt across several areas in neighbouring Nepal with sparking brief panic among local residents.Authorities have confirmed there are no immediate reports of casualties or significant structural damage following the quake.
This latest tremor comes just days after catastrophic flooding devastated parts of the rugged Nepal-Tibet border region. The compounding effect of recent floods and ongoing seismic activity continues to raise concerns regarding the region's vulnerable infrastructure also prompting disaster management teams to closely monitor the mountainous terrain for potential aftershocks or landslides.
