BanglaPress Desk: Dengue infections continue to persist across the country. In the last 24 hours, seven more people have died from the disease, while 1,596 new patients have been admitted to hospitals.

As of November 5, the total death toll from dengue in the country this year has reached 452. Since the beginning of the year, 144,371 people have received hospital treatment for dengue.

These figures were released on Thursday (November 5) in a regular bulletin on the dengue situation by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the bulletin, among the patients admitted to hospitals between 8:00 AM on Wednesday and 8:00 AM on Thursday, the highest number—550—were in the Dhaka division. Additionally, 295 patients were admitted in the Chattogram division, 213 in Barishal, 221 in Khulna, 148 in Rajshahi, 83 in Mymensingh, 67 in Rangpur, and 19 in the Sylhet division.

DGHS statistics indicate that, since the start of the year, 138,080 patients have been discharged following treatment. Currently, 5,839 individuals are undergoing treatment in hospitals across the country.

An analysis of the mortality data reveals that 33 people lost their lives to dengue in the first five days of November alone. Previously, 174 deaths were recorded in October and 148 in September, meaning a significant portion of this year’s total fatalities occurred during these two months.

The DGHS has been maintaining records of dengue-related hospital admissions and deaths in the country since 2000. According to their data, 2023 saw the highest number of hospital admissions in the history of dengue in Bangladesh, with 321,179 patients admitted. That same year also recorded the highest death toll, with 1,705 fatalities.

Separately, in 2025, more than 400 people died from dengue, with over 102,000 patients admitted to hospitals that year.
