Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court has sent Abul Barkat, former chairman of Janata Bank and prominent economist, to jail in connection with a Tk297 crore embezzlement case.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Spokesperson Akhtarul Islam shared the court’s decision with reporters on Friday.
He stated, “Abul Barkat has been sent to jail in the ACC’s case. The court will hear the remand and bail applications at a later date.”
Barkat was arrested by the Detective Branch of police on Thursday from his residence in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. He was then handed over to the ACC, who produced him before the court.
