'ACC finds ex-minister Mosharraf’s undisclosed assets worth Tk35.18cr'
  Bangla Press Desk: An investigation of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found undeclared assets worth Tk35.18 crore of former minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, ex father-in-law of Sheikh Hasina’s daughter Saima Wazed. The ACC is going to file a case against Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain under the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012 and the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, said the commission sources. ACC sources also said that the commission started the investigation against Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, former Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, in February this year. Meanwhile, the ACC investigation team has prepared the final investigation report against him and proposed to file a case against the former Lawmaker from Faridpur-3 constituency.
While talking to the Daily Sun, a member of the ACC investigation team said, requesting not to be named, “Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has several FDR (Fixed Deposit Receipt) accounts in several banks and the ACC has found that there are Tk28 crore in these FDR accounts in his name.” The ACC investigation officer also said that Mosharraf Hossain has also $5,75,000 in FC (Foreign Currency) account in his name. Meanwhile, the ACC has frozen all his bank accounts and the commission is going to file a case against him very soon, said ACC sources. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain also served as a minister of the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.
Mosharraf's son Khandker Mashroor Hossain married Saima Wazed, the daughter of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Hossain has been residing in Switzerland since April 2022. In 2020, local police raided Mosharraf Hossain's house in Faridpur and arrested two of his associates, Sajjad Hossain Barkat and Imtiaz Hassan Rubel. They were detained with Tk25.45 billion in illicit money. In 2022, his brother, Khandaker Mohtesam Hossain Babar, was arrested for embezzling Tk250,000,000.
