Accused show no remorse for severe crimes: Chief prosecutor

Bangla Press Desk: Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam on Thursday told the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 that despite committing serious crimes, none of the accused has shown any remorse.

He said ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina attempted to incite the army during the July–August Mass Uprising.

Speaking in response to the defence’s arguments in the crimes against humanity case against Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Tajul Islam said, “Within the state, Sheikh Hasina tried to create a civil war.

The chief prosecutor added, “The accused, including Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, have no repentance. They committed grisly crimes, the whole world knows these crimes occurred, and they themselves know it. Yet, no sign of regret is visible. On the contrary, they have been threatening to kill those who testified against them, destroying their homes, and even suggested dumping their bodies in the Bay of Bengal.”

Tajul Islam further said, “In the end, Sheikh Hasina attempted to create chaos within various state institutions and tried to incite the army. But the patriotic army of Bangladesh did not fall into this trap. The people of Bangladesh did not fall for these provocations. No one succumbed to the incitement.”

After hearing arguments from both sides, the tribunal fixed 13 November 2025 for announcing the date of judgment in the case.
