Accused Titon put on 5-day remand
Bangla Press Desk:  A Dhaka court on Saturday granted a five-day remand for Md Titon Gazi, who was arrested in connection with the murder of scrap metal trader Lal Chand, alias Sohag near the Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital in Old Dhaka. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Giyas passed the order following a seven-day remand plea filed by the police. In the remand application, the police said that the accused, Titon Gazi, was directly involved in the killing and he is familiar with other suspects involved in the case. To obtain the full names and addresses of the named and unidentified suspects in the case, it is necessary to take him into police custody for extensive interrogation, it said.
Through thorough interrogation of the accused, the sequence of events, planning, and preparation of the crime can be uncovered, and the weapons and tools used in the incident can be recovered, the plea added. On Friday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana placed two other accused – Mahmudul Hasan Mohin and Tarek Rahman Robin – on a five-day and two-day remand, respectively. Meanwhile, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul said the case will be transferred to a Speedy Trial Tribunal, and the government is committed to ensuring swift justice in the brutal murder. On 9 July, a group of assailants hit Sohag with large chunks of concrete and beat him to death in broad daylight for allegedly refusing to pay extortion money.  This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
