Bangla Press Desk: Relatives of the mother, son and daughter who were killed brutally in broad light in Cumilla hold a press conference at National Press Club , demanding a trial over the incident on Monday. -Daily sun Photo Billal Hossain, father of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, has been accused of involvement in the brutal killing of a mother and her two children in Muradnagar, Cumilla. The allegations were made by Rikta Akter, elder daughter of the deceased Roksana Begum, at a press conference held at the National Press Club on Monday. She demanded the immediate arrest of Billal Hossain and sought security for her life, claiming she was being targeted by the accused.
Roksana Begum alias Rubi, 53, her son Russel Miah, 35, and daughter Taspia Akter Jonaki, 29, were beaten to death on 3 July. Rikta alleged that Billal Hossain instigated the murders, which were carried out by local leader Shimul chairman. She claimed Shimul has yet to be arrested and that several key accused are still at large and are allegedly searching for her to cause harm. Fearing for her safety, she has gone into hiding, leaving her home in Muradnagar.
She also demanded the arrest of all the accused, inclusion of newly identified suspects in the case, a free and fair investigation, and protection for her family members. Rikta’s husband Khalilur Rahman, Mim Akter – the wife of deceased Russel – and Jonaki’s three children were also present at the briefing. Rikta said she called the national emergency number 999 for police help during the attack, but officers arrived only after the victims had died. She claimed the killings stemmed from a dispute over a construction project. Her mother had started building a house, but Shimul Billah reportedly pressured her to hire contractors of his choice. When she refused, tensions escalated.
Rikta further stated that her mother was well-respected in the community and had contested the union parishad election for the post of vice chairman. Out of jealousy, false drug charges were later filed against her, she claimed. This article was originally published on Daily Sun. [Bangla Press is a global platform for free thought.
