AL leader Mozammel sent to jail in July uprising case

Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Monday sent former lawmaker and Awami League Organising Secretary BM Mozammel Haque to jail in a murder case tied to the July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order after the police produced the accused before the court, seeking his detention.
During the hearing, the defence sought a division for the Awami League leader in jail, which was granted by the court.
On 5 October, the law enforcers arrested Mozammel in the capital’s Niketan area.
According to the case statement, activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations opened fire on a procession at Ring Road in Adabor during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on 5 August last year. Apparel worker Rubel, 18, was shot and killed in the incident.
The investigation revealed that Mozammel led the crackdown on the protest at the scene, and evidence was found of his involvement in the incident. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
